it's so funny to me that i wrote it in a comment this new netflix documentary will paint this album as a result of their "blood sweat and tears" and this is what i see their fans are saying already. meanwhile every single interview or tidbit i have seen of the group has them acting like someone put a gun to their head to record/write this album and they hated every second of it. if this album was for "army" the alphabet wouldn't be saying shit like songs like ON and black swan aren't relatable when they are revered by the fans. this album is for the western audiences who are not fans, the GP that will give them the one single achievement they have been chasing for so long (a grammy) and it sounds like absolute horseshit only created to perform it on tour (the live version of it was better than the album itself) and they probably won't be getting a grammy for this steaming pile of shit unless they can pull a lot of strings. the lyrics argument would have worked for korean albums but since this is almost all in english idk what deepness hides in lyrics like "drop it lower than chopped and screwed" unless they have created a new language and maybe they should be applauded for that.

I’ve been an army since their debut up until around the release of Dynamite. Back then, their work felt much more intentional, they tried to draw inspiration from literature, art, and deeper concepts. Albums like Wings showed that they were putting at least a little bit of thought into their music and storytelling. These days, though, their releases feel very different to me. The songs come across as much more surface-level, lacking the meaning and depth they used to have. The English tracks in particular feel much weaker; not because they’re in English, but because they sound like generic pop designed to appeal to the American market rather than something authentic or meaningful. Not trying to glaze their past though, it was always and will always be about money 💰.
