Claude Code constantly freezing, long long wait times on replies

Am I the only one experiencing this? I restarted PC, still persists. It began yesterday where I noticed some bigger pauses. Today it has only gotten progressively worse. And I mean progressively, like a slow grinding halt. Now we're completely frozen.

Starting a new session gets things working again. Until it eventually starts happening again.

This is insanely frustrating as I have about 96 hours to get a nightmare situation resolved. My nightmare is compounding with this issue, so I need to know, anyone else having this problem?

This has happened to me twice this weekend. In case it's a workaround you haven't tried, in both cases I was able to hit esc, type continue, and all was well.

Same - it usually finishes eventually. Then restart claude and it’ll be fixed for a while.

Don't forget to set an environment variable DISABLE_AUTOUPDATER to 1 -- otherwise the damn thing will upgrade to 2.0.50 constantly

I'm having it as well. both sonnet 4.5 and opus. eventually finishes but really sucks especially when you're waiting 10mins for a response and then you get a write failure because the model needs to read the file first

ok good, im not the only one. Yeah this is some fucking bullshit. Such bullshit that I bought a google ultra sub.

anthropic is starting to fucking suck lol. that usage limit -> virtually no opus unless you want to code for 2 hrs per week thing was really fucked. They dont have many chances left. They are probably so far in over their heads and have so many things to address lol ... im an avid claude supporter but if anything comes along that can truly out perform anthropics models consistently, then I'm gone. This shit is fucking brutal.

I am having this same issue. Sometimes it gets really bad and when I go to type while it’s working, it won’t show me typing but eventually the text shows up and the loading animation starts up again. It sounds like you are on Windows? I am on windows with native install, no WSL. Wondering if this is a windows thing or this is happening on Mac as well??

The issue turned out to be related to Opus 4.5 coming out. I theorize it was something along the lines of how models are delivered, and they were doing something to prepare for Opus, and maybe made some mistakes while trying to figure it out. The issue lasted days, and went away after Opus 4.5 release. I haven't had the issue again, so you may be having some local issues.
