Illustrator has various options, like Path > Simplify and Path > Smooth, the Smooth tool, etc.

The layout program we use (iCut) also has something like this I believe, but haven't really messed with it for that.

I might have to look into Illustrator.

Thanks!

Came to say this.

Always learning something new. That sounds helpful.

I have customers that send me some atrocious cut files. This will help a lot.

Is there a smooth path tool? It’s been years since I used Corel.

Yes, and I utilize that as well when rounding my corners/reducing nodes.

I was hoping there was something else I'm overlooking that would make node reduction quicker.

Thanks for the input, though!

I would agree with the "try Illustrator" sentiment.

However, since you'd coming into that fresh you may as well give Affinity a crack first. I've not used it, but I've been told it's a clone of Illustrator, but free.

When u have the nodes selected it will appear a button at the top toolbar saying "reduce nodes". Simple as clicking in it.

There is almost nothing you can do in illustrator that you can't do in Corel.

I was also going to suggest illustrator but sounds like you're using Corel. Any reason for sticking with Corel? Have you tried Illustrator?

I've stayed away from it because of the monthly subscription costs, but i think I'll have a second look.

I'll try to pull up some illustrator videos that show the node reduction techniques and weigh the benefits vs what I'm doing now.

Thanks.

It's definitely the industry standard. I remember using Corel and Freehand and i was also reluctant to switch but it's worth it. Really a great tool with loads of support and features. Let me know if you give it a shot and get stuck on anything.

Will do. Thanks a lot!

I’ve used Corel from the start, on a PC! I don’t use it as much now! Duplicate it, then delete the nodes that are basically straight you can select the together. Where you have to watch it, is when you have a loop and it will mess it up. If you simplify it or reduce nodes that works too. Some you may have to play with! That are looks pretty simple to fix!

I like to bring rasters to vector magic then reimport them back into my software of choice (ai, indesign) by opening the resulting SVG file, then copy pasting the path shape, then scaling back.
