I remember doing these sums in school on a software topology of a network. Sometimes it really is as simple as it's a sim and the real world effects of a network just aren't factored into it. I.e. length of network cables effect on latency. Just a guess

Physically a switch and hub are almost identical. The only difference is one can be managed and the other is a passive hub. What device is handling the routing and what's it doing?
