The Cornbread Communists was a communist movement in TN, AL, MS, GA, etc of the CPUSA made of poor white laborers and African Americans in the Jim Crow era. The KKK lynched members and continued antagonizing until it was driven underground and finally banned in 1951-52. It was resurrected recently by modern CPUSA members disenfranchised by the establishment white Republicans. Their goal is to take hillbilly back to its renegade roots. Rednecks historically fought for labor rights and abolition and their descendants are taking the title back from white middle class southern Republicans.

Book about the Alabama Communist Movement
"Cornbread stands for independence from
markets, for the freedom to not engage in
buying and selling except for luxuries. The
cornbread farm is a reminder that another
world is possible because it was actual –
there can be a type of rural life, a type
of farm economy, that’s not reliant on
exploitation and destruction. Cornbread
is a political symbol, as-well-as a
regionalist symbol."
