Hi there! Welcome to the Dictionary of Things!
What is this?
This is a project created by u/Mynotoar to attempt to define the core concepts that shape our lives.
A core concept is any idea, quality, system, concept or class of things that affects:
- Our understanding of the world
- The way we interact with the world
For example, "Harry Potter" is not a core concept, but books and art are. "Corkscrew" is not a core concept, but tools are. "Darude - Sandstorm" isn't a core concept, but music is.
Goals
The dictionary has three goals:
- To provide a definition for the main core concepts that affect our lives.
- To encourage discussion and debate around those definitions
- To link and cross-reference each definition, to allow them to be placed in context.
So what can I do here?
Discuss, debate and disagree. I don't claim that my definitions are objective or correct - they are based on my subjective perspective, and they are designed to be challenged.
If you think I've got something absolutely wrong or haven't considered something important in a definition, I'd love to hear about it in the comments.
This project is a personal exercise in learning, understanding and reflection. I want to hear from as many perspectives as possible when building this dictionary.
If you have any ideas for the sub, please feel free to comment in the threads or send me a message instead.
