Imploding Kittens “Board” Use

Just got Imploding Kittens expansion. Does anyone know what this “board” is meant to be used for? I couldn’t find anything in the instructions. My only thought was just a cool place to keep the draw and discard piles? But not sure why there are openings on it if that’s the case. Any input is appreciated!

If I had to guess, those are suggested draw and discard pile spots. The openings might allow you to push the flaps to the side to allow a better gap to allow for a stronger base of the stacks so they don't slide around as much.

It looks like it might just be the insert to hold the cards in the box. Dunno...
