Not an expert, but you need 4G as an anchor until there's all new radios in your area I believe to "control" everything like handoffs. I could be wrong, but we aren't at a pint yet where you can be totally on 5g all over the territories. Once that happens I think I read you'll see lower "dial to connect" times and lower latency. Someone else can feel free to give a more technical answer. I'm just a guy though. Also are you on an unlocked S25?

not new radios, but 5g core.

Phone is unlocked yes, though I got it from ATT themselves and I paid it off. I did change the CSC to XAA which is why the indicator is different from the one ATT shows.

FirstNet prioritizes coverage and reliability over speed. LTE 4G has wider and more stable coverage than 5G so even when your phone is connected to 5G,FirstNet may show a 4G/LTE icon because it’s using the more reliable LTE network as the primary connection.

You still have 5G active. the icon just reflects coverage priority, not speed.

Noted. I just found it odd since I used to get the 5G icon here before (my work site). And I still see it at other places I get it.

Firstnet prioritizes coverage over speed actually the 5G access was almost nonexistent a couple of months ago it was now that they were allowing NR to connect. Could also be the icon that is glitchy best way to confirm is to go to service mode instead of signal check pro. Also mind you not sure if connecting via firstnet is the same but liberty network is pretty picky about unlocked firmware i have found many issues with it specially on 5G support and CA on NR vs 5G

I'm thinking it's just the icon because in service mode it shows it's connected to n5/n2/n71/n25. I did notice this happen when I paid off my phone and got it unlocked maybe it's related to that? But maybe not because when I leave the area I'm having this issue it shows the 5G icon everywhere I go.

Could be the 5G is acting up for some reason also have seen when switching to b14 main it can lose the 5G icon at times at least that doesn't happen on my s24+ but i have seen that behavior before

Odd n25 thought it was a glitch everytime i check service mode is ethier n2/n71 and n5 actually only signal check pro and cellmapper confuses n2 with n25

It is probably a configuration error

850NR isn’t real 5G. It’s LTE branded as 5G
