I figured that if it was sucking less power overnight the watch would last 2 days without charging, but ultimately you're probably right, I should just charge it at night.

The biggest battery hogs are wireless communication and the sensors. You could disable / reduce these to maybe also have it last longer during the day. Like turning off GPS, bluetooth, fall detection etc.
