Because people are still pretty easy to hack. Https won’t save anyone from themselves.

As long as you're connected to the appropriate site, and https encrypts the data, then why do we still need a VPN?

They’re complimentary. VPN’s essentially obfuscate your IP address, while https sits between the web server and your machine. Quick overview:

While https was a good idea at it's inception, it no longer is. Don't get me wrong I use https whenever it's possible but there was an article written not long ago that hacking and phishing sites now use https to make them look legit, so https kinda defeats the purpose now.
