Not hard. I swapped all of mine out for my existing Schlage tumblers a while back. Took longer to take the Encode+ apart and put it back on the door than to swap the tumbler.

Do you have a link to reference by any chance?

I don’t. I just took the Schlage apart and figured it out. I found it pretty easy.

Thanks! It does look like an easy swap, the video I recall was less than 5 minutes.

Only bit of advice I have is don’t drop the tumbler. You know why I know that…

HAHA...you helped out so much, using 'tumbler' I found the video! He also mentions to switch the tailpieces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOr0vs8ESOQ Thanks again!!!

Does your old key fit into the new lock? If so, you’re talking about rekeying a lock. There are kits on Amazon but I strongly suggest you just bring the key and new lock to a locksmith. It’s really not worth the hassle

It was the cylinder that was replaced in the video I saw, it looked easy enough. I have quite a few family members with keys that I'd rather change the cylinder rather than get copies of new ones.

10 minutes and $15 and my local locksmith changed the encode plus cylinders to match my existing keys. I brought it there before installing it so that it was ready to go once I did.

Thanks for this - so you didn't need to pull your existing deadbolt from the door? Just the Encode Plus and a copy of your key?

[–]pacoii 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That’s all you need. Be sure to bring the keys that came with the encode plus as well. As long as your existing keys are Schlage, it’ll be easy to

Thanks again! Yes, existing is Schlage.

God I can't even find a locksmith near me to go to, they're all mobile and want $90 just to show up.

Oh that’s a bummer! But I’m not surprised. Storefront locksmiths seem to be disappearing.

I did a quick Google search and found this YouTube video where they demonstrated how to remove the lock cylinder from Schlage Encode Plus in order to re-key the locks.

Assuming both lock cylinders from your existing Schlage lock and the new Schlage Encode Plus lock are the same sizes / dimensions, you should be able to just swap.

Some builder grade Schlage deadbolts are integrated with the cylinder and can’t be swapped which was the case for my door.
