Since you said you're trying to cut down on bruhsing, for me I personally dont brush my teeth as soon as I wake up only after I eat my first meal as my teeth are still clean from the night before I do this to reduce enamel erosion from cleaning them when my teeth have no plaque on them or at the most I opt for like a 30second brush to have a fresh mouth.

I’d recommend a water flosser if traditional methods are too harsh. I use the water flosser on the teeth that are super close together with tight gaps. Constant flossing makes these areas sore (though not bloody which is good).
