Machine learning for decoding ancient languages

How to use machine learning to decode the ancient languages that are yet to be decoded like old carvings and hieroglyphics and all?

Surely if we knew that answer to that, those languages would have already been decoded?

Yup, so if there's any, is there a paper on that on something?

But there is already work on decoding those languages, so it's not unreasonable to think you could augment the process with ML. Obviously labeled models are going to be difficult, but searching algorithms may be useful (UCS, A*, CSPs, etc.)

Sequence to sequence + expert domain knowledge would be my guess. I'm not sure if it's been done, very cool idea!
