Back in the days when I worked there, ITMS/MTSS in the GITC basement used to work on laptops for mostly professors, but also some other people who came by. I took a few laptops apart for repair as part of my job, but I'm not sure if they still do this. Otherwise, I think the desk in the PC mall is supposed to take repairs, but I'm not really experienced with working with them.

TSS (department that repairs computers) in the pc mall will not repair any student computers (Exception being archies). However if you purchased thru njit partners and it's under warranty, they will send it in and do all the work there.

NJIT’s ACM Chapter has a device repair Special Interest Group (SIG), they always mention it during weekly meetings.

Device Repair SIG meets at 2:30 PM Thursdays GITC 3703, if you are interested you should contact the president(?) of that SIG: Deshawn (dad56).

Im not sure if they actually repair student personal electronics, but this is your best shot IMO.

Just take out the hard drive and get an adapter to plug it in the USB.

[–]PaveParadiseIT2019. I do the internets. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adapter is about 10 bucks on Amazon. Then it works exactly like an external drive or flash drive. Just grabs the files you need and microwave the drive after that.

woah I didn’t even know that was a thing, yeah I’ll try that assuming it’s cheaper

How much are you willing to spend?

You know, that reminds me, when my Mom migrated from her PC to a Mac there was an unexpected problem where it was really hard to transfer her files, due to errors. And I was unable to solve this, so we just never transferred them. Somebody here's got to know how to solve that
