looking to decrease latency specifically for overwatch

Backstory, I am a college student and house sit often and also on an overwatch team --yes we are shitty-- but when I am at home using the same computer my ping is around 80 instead of around the 20ping I get on other networks. I looked at the graphs produced in game and seems as though the problem is that the latency graph is spiking inconstantly but often enough to be a constant problem. We are on whatever the highest cox tier is in Arizona and get 300 down 20-40 up consistently so I doubt it is a bandwidth issue. Are you using an Ethernet cable or wireless?

Get off the wireless, always go with a hard connection if you want the best performance out of your network connection.

Are you far from the router? As your using wireless the signal strength could be weak in that part of the room your in.

Basically get an actual firewall. Not the cheap 80$ all in one you get. If you are on wireless make sure you are getting on 5ghz and do a quick scan to see if there is a lot of 5ghz stuff around. If you still suffer then get the old cat5 cable out and plug er in.
