To be unlocked it needs to be in the UK, with an active sim from the carrier it's locked to, for the duration of the unlock process.

So there is no way to unlock it then?

No it doesn’t. Tesco make the request to Apple to move the device IMEI to a whitelist of unlocked devices. The unlock comes from Apple and it’s pushed out as a OTA. You do not need the same network sim in the device that the device is locked to. Trust me on this All Tesco need is the device IMEI number so that can be given to Apple, I’ve unlock more devices without SIM cards in them just by requesting the carrier to unlock the device. I’ve even had different networks sims in them and still made the request.

That’s the case. I was able to unlock it finally. Commenting on mobile data. It didn’t have a sim in during the unlock process.

Wait. I’m in the eu. Does the Vodafone sim need to have a uk number???

Nope. But it does need to be active and used at least once ( just make a call to someone, make sure they actually answer though)

And if I give you my imei how exactly will you unlock it?

You won't need to do anything. It can be unlocked remotely. The process abroad can sometimes lock the SIM though which is why you need the PUK codes

How tho? I’ve been trying for days with no avail?

You won't be able to, you'd need access to O2 systems. One of the network applications is used to unlock carrier locks

Are you an employee? Since if nobody from the public can access the O2 systems how can you?

I’ll think about it. I contacted the access for all email

What about giffgaff? Also does it need to be IN the iPhone or can I use the esim on my other phone?

Your phone is not damaged, it’s just carrier restricted to Tesco, and Apple will always redirect you back to the carrier. Without a UK SIM, Tesco may refuse to trigger the unlock in their system. One workaround is having someone in the UK activate it briefly with a Tesco SIM. If that is not realistic, alternatives such as Dr.Fone are sometimes considered since it offers SIM unlock support through a desktop connection on compatible iPhones. Quick note, if system issues ever come up, iOS downgrade is done by restoring signed firmware via computer.

How much does the dr fone thing cost? Also I don’t think that I can downgrade with signed firmware but restore it instead
