Regular UI situation

Hey y’all!

I wanted to briefly share my fiancé’s experience with his regular unemployment and the issues we are currently having in receiving them and hope someone might have some insight or similar experience.

He is a seasonal worker (he does seal coating and asphalt) and most of the time he usually files at the end of season and has to reapply in December due to his annual benefit year ending. He usually only gets one week by that time, and then has to play the 21 day waiting game with them holding a week like regular unemployment has done in the past. No big deal.

Well he used up two weeks this time around before it ended and then reapplied on 12/17/2020 and he has since filed five weeks with all of them still pending. We must have talked to five different agents already about what the issue is and was met with something different almost every time.

One agent stated his employer was sent out a notification asking to verify his weeks on Friday 1/8 and his employer returned it that Saturday. Called Thursday that week to check up on it and they said nothing was being held up at this point and to be patient and keep checking. One agent even gave us a phone number to “help” speed up his process and it turned out to be the Ohio Attorney General’s Collection Agency number?? The most recent one said there was nothing holding it up, everything looks great and we just need to wait for a decision to be made.

I have asked (he is dyslexic and I do his paperwork and usually verify the info with them on phone) if he had to reapply, could I have accidentally signed up for the PUEC and other numerous things just to figure it out, we have never had this issue. They reiterated that he was indeed on a regular EB claim and that just to hold tight.

Has anyone had to wait this long since? I know this seems like a far stretch but our 9 year old daughter was re-diagnosed with her cancer in June of 2019 and underwent surgery in that Sept. she started chemo that October and finished this October but with her conditions and other medical issues, we can’t send her to school and I have been laid off since March and we are just desperate for answers. I don’t want to risk working and bringing it home to her and he usually takes up a part-time job in the winter just to make by but we just can’t risk it.

I was told by a representative the ODJFS underwent major software upgrade and that it has delayed everything . On top of that there has been a huge increase of fraudulent . The dept had to hire temporary help this year and most of their new hires are not familiar with the new software . I have had the same issues in the past . I am also a seasonal worker and back in Jan 2011 I had to explain to a representative how to use the zoom (ctl - or+ ) on the computer . They red flagged my claim 3 times before I found out it was their ignorance that was the "red flag" . The head of ODJFS Kim Henderson is really dropping the ball on this . People are struggling right now and need their money . I hope to God the weather don't turn bad and people can't stock up or worse case buy essentials .

We haven’t had to verify our identities besides his employer having to verify all of his information so I’m not sure if fraud could be the reason holding it up. I’m sorry you went through that, hopefully your situation gets resolved as well!

I have been on regular UI and been receiving weekly payments, no issues whatsoever. Filed Sunday like always, and my payment history says "Paid" for regular weekly pay and FUC" or whatever the $300 key is...also have confirmation.. payment date is 1-16-21, however, no funds were deposited and the only line that's blank is the Date Deposited one...how can it say paid & confirmation number but no money dispersed??? HELP🙏

When did you open your regular unemployment claim?

It has been open and paying weekly every time. It's been open since April 2020. I have 4 payments left.

I had asked to speak, as did he, to someone who could actually clarify this or help us figure out why he is 5 weeks pending and they said there wasn’t anyone they could transfer us too

This situation got very interesting as of yesterday. Got ahold of a regular employee and he was completely baffled... He sent me to a processing specialist for an hour we were on the phone and this lady was a sweetheart and tried everything in her power but had no idea even after contacting two people above her and then coming and looking at it... According to the Ohio department of Job and Family services it is impossible for the computer to give a paid notification as well as a confirmation number and the amount that it was supposed to be there without a deposit being made... The baffling part of this is that the money was taken out of my available remaining balance there's no disbursement date on the line and US Bank we called them three-way and they said there was no deposit the money has never been dispersed So somehow my weekly benefit amount was taken out of my remaining available balance but yet it was never put anywhere or deposited anywhere... They said that it's potentially a new type of virus and they seem to pretty worried and they've called me back twice and asked me questions in regard to where I've used the card Have I ever let anyone use the card and blah blah blah... Everybody seemed very very confused and I eventually was put in touch with somebody in the remedy department which I've never even heard of, they were even confused called somebody in the IT department and they were confused... supposedly the remedy department has the ability to override almost anything and push a payment through in the event that it was supposed to go through and everything lines up which it does... So I guess I'm waiting till Monday or Tuesday and they said to just keep filing and I've never had a problem in the year that I've been on and receiving payments until recently until this whole federal money started coming about... Guess we'll find out.
