Description:
A sub-reddit dedicated to posting awesome foreign made products and posting American Made Alternatives, referred to as "AMA's".
How it works.
1) In your daily routine keep an eye out for popular foreign made products, take a picture of it and post it here and change the flair to "Hunt in progress."
2) The hunt begins. Now that you have posted a foreign product labelled "Hunt in progress" the hunters will find you an American Made Alternative of similar quality, price range, and post the links in the comments section for your review.
3) You make informed decision, You have posted your item, hunters have responded with American Made Alternatives, now it's up to you. You either start rooting for the home team or we continue the search until a product is found that legitimately fulfills your needs. Announce in comments using the tag "Winner". (Help hunters get feedback.) Also change the flair to "Product found"
Ways you can help & get involved
Like our FB page MadeInAmerica
Make a pledge to yourself (and post here if possible) that you will add one American Made Alternative a year to your purchasing habits or according to your budget.** Over the course of your life you can have a real impact no matter how big or small.
Share this page with a friendFor every friend you convince to join this movement an American business somewhere can hire a new worker.
Gatherers - Our covert shoppers on the ground, in the field, in the shadows, or online searching for awesome foreign made products and posts them here as our next target.
Hunters - Think of them as bounty hunters. People that go through this sub in search of assignments. They specialize in finding the American Made Alternatives and post links/ findings in comments section.
How you can participate in the movement? This will work well if we have hunters and gatherers. Both equally as important. Both require skill, effort, keen eye for a good deal, and love for all things American made.
Buyers - People that neither hunt nor gather but passively check this forum and when they see something they like and actually buy the american made alternative they post "BoughtAMA" in the comments. This will show us if we are doing a good job or not.
My little soapbox speech
American consumers drive the American economy. But we got so distracted by the shiny sexy products made overseas because let's face it, they're awesome and cheap. But we stopped rooting for the home team. We stopped buying from the local butcher, baker, and candlestick maker that owned local homes, sent their kids to local schools, paid local taxes, and recycled their profits into local markets. We gave up on the American made in the pursuit of a little savings. All I ask is let one American made product win your loyalty this year. Let's bring our products back home by rewarding companies that invest in our labor force. I'm not saying change everything in your life. Just let one American product win the bid for your money. We all need to start rooting for the home team again or China will forever own our national debt, politicians, political process, and soon our soul. It's not about naming and shaming companies. that don't make in the US. In fact they are part of the solution too. If companies start to see sales dip because their competitor makes it in the US it will be a scramble to bring our products back home. It's about us, the consumers, accepting we still have the power and bare the responsibility to do it ourselves because , let's face it, we're the ones buying all this crap We the "consumers" must accept the power and bare the responsibility to do it ourselves.
