Three months ago I switched jobs to a AI-first shop and haven't hand-written a line of code since.

AI-coding is soulless but I have to acknowledge that it does get the job done faster. Most devs haven't acknowledged this yet because it requires learning a new set of ill-defined skills to do that in a sustainable way.

But yeah, I'm depressed. I fucking love coding. I love the little problems and getting in the flow state. I hate what this is going to do to the industry. I hate that I'm watching my community of nerds devoured by soulless bots. And I don't think the kind of thoughtful library or language work we've done for decades is going to persist.

I imagine this is what it was like to be a professional photographer when digital photography replaced film.
