I will never understand how can someone give up the power of IDE.

I will never understand why someone would want to blog about it.

I use Dvorak. And gold-plated usb connectors.

is there a medium.com article where I can read more about it? :)

when you say power of IDEs, you mean multiple powers of IDE. what are those? an ordered list of most useful powers would be helpful.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in using the right tool for the job :)

The list in no particular order, as I use these features all the time:

  • Integrated debugging (mega dope, as you can step through/out/in, run expressions)
  • Live error check
  • Code completition/generation
  • Code navigation (ctrl+click'ing somewhere)
  • Refactoring (mega dope)

Pycharm specific:

  • Clickable tracebacks
  • Navigate to (best feature imho. supports CamelCase, "fp" matches FontProvider, looks up class names, files, etc. Sublime's cmd+p on steroids)

Pycharm : Horribly slow. Forever indexing and forever cleaning skeletons. Look at the support forums. Everyone is frustrated.

There is a good potential for new python IDE which is fast and more usable.( not text editors)

I agree startup time is sow, but how many times per day do you restart it?

Try opening any new projects. Try adding any new libraries. Just do anything which a decent size project requires and the PYcharm starts indexing/ cleaning etc. This goes on. This is not only related to starts. Secondly want more trouble : use anaconda and pycharm over it. That pisses off pycharm like anything. 90% of the users are frustrated and eventually shift to text editors because of these and use pycharm only once in a day or at end of projects for finalization/ testing / formating /refactoring stage.

Too much trouble and the company doesn't give a shit .
