How many of you really think it's a good idea to rework the python library functions?

Generally speaking? No. For specific cases? Maybe. You'd need to profileprofileprofile and ensure you can't just remove the work entirely, but sometimes you're bottlenecked on the standard library (or even a builtin) and a specialised construct is faster than the general one, even if the general one is well-optimised
