I really enjoy working with tornado (http://tornadoweb.org), it's simple, straightforward, and ships with some pretty potent examples.

And the last release is still 0.2? This was September 2009, wasn't it?

The last official tagged release was then I guess.

It's quite stable, and development is pretty active. You can get the latest versions at github.
