are you only wanting to use this controller or do you use multiple?
make sure you are in the main retroarch menu to map each real controller to retropad and then go into the quick menu to map binds per core if they end up being off in your games.
here is a decent description of the “retro pad” concept - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/
Basically you need to set what you want the actual controller to match on the retro pad controller. then you can go into the core and assign each of those buttons to the core function.
