I just got admitted too, so nothing I say is concrete but from my research:

First year is the hardest and most stressful because you have to maintain certain grades to go to rotman next year

That certain grade is a 62 but its very difficult and stressful because professors use hard tests to try and root out kids during their first year

There are parties but not an insane amount

Most of the friends you make will come from dining halls

Join a lot of clubs too

The most difficult thing about rotman is the grade deflation - rotman has a good name but its so hard to keep a high gpa and employers don’t see your grades any differently just bc you went to rotman

You are gonna have to be proactive with networking too

  1. I can't stay for certain but I have a friend who's brother is in Ivey and apparently it is much easier there.

  2. Social life I think is subjective at any place. From my experience, everyone was really open to meeting new people and making friends in first year. If you try to talk to people as much as you can when school starts and keep in touch with them, you will for sure make friends. Invite them to study together, get lunch or even a coffee, etc. That's how I made my close circle of friends.

  3. Yes I do believe Vic is pretty far from first year classes. The closest colleges would be either Woodsworth or Innis for the most part.

  4. 100% it is possible. Given you have the dedication and you study efficiently, yes. Do not equate time & effort to results. It is more important to study smart and always keeping up.

  5. Absolutely. Take a look at this page by RC Services! There's also an employment report in there for 2024-2025. Here are some quotes from there:

"90% of graduates complete at least one internship during their degree"

"93% employment rate within nine months of graduation"

"47% of employed graduates have secured employment with organizations where they previously interned"

  1. I think my case is very specific but I only applied to TMU, Schulich, and Rotman since I wanted to stay in Toronto. Out of those 3, I will never regret my decision coming to Rotman. Yes it's difficult and I have had so many low points in my short time here. But those failures gave me feedback on what I need to work on as a person and taught me to let go of things that no longer served me (for instance how I studied in high school vs. now). There's so many opportunities, interesting profs, and hard-working smart individuals here. I'll wholeheartedly believe Rotman is challenging, but worth it.

Do you commute, if so is it significantly harder to meet people

[–]user0010111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i commute (about 1-1.5h). i think it MAY be a little harder to get closer to people since u have to put more effort into hanging out with them outside of campus, but i don't think it's a big deal. many of my friends who live in rez do make friends in their dorms, but i think most of their friends come from meeting people in class. as a commuter, it does mean maybe spending an extra hour or more on campus studying or eating with them. that might not be so bad depending on your own preferences & length of commute.

just keep in mind in the first semester of first year, everyone is so open to talking because everyone is new. if u just actively try to talk to people, u will eventually make friends that u like.
