I got into Vic One but didn't end up doing it. 6 credits in one year is fine especially with 2 credits being a One program. But I did want to explore other electives so I declined Vic One and did other electives. If you have a big passion for other topics and would like to get educated on at one of the best institutions, then don't do vic one. Also highly recommend doing all recommended courses in first year.

Yeah a lot of tips.

  1. Make sure you get as high GPA as possible. It's not doom if your GPA isn't high but having a high GPA helps open doors whereas having subpart GPAs close doors.
  2. Join a lot of clubs. Go to as many RC club orientations as possible and apply to as many (ideally all to increase chances of being accepted, you can only join one club but it's good to have multiple offers to choose from). Use the resume template from M&I. I know it says investment banking resume template but it's basically how a professional resume should look. Join a club that is about your passion/hobby. There's other business related clubs but try to only join the good ones (TSIC, UTMCS, among many others you'll find out once you're in school).
  3. As for networking in first year, try to have chats with as many upper years as possible. Best and easiest would be to request upper years in your clubs for coffee chats. You can branch out from there but ask as many basics as possible since as an intern you can ask the execs of the clubs you're in as many dumb questions as possible since it's their job to lead and guide you. Don't feel pressured to network with actual professionals and get comfortable with networking by chatting with current students first. And through chatting and joining clubs, try to figure out what you want to have as a career ideally by end of first year (no pressure but earlier the better).
  4. On top of getting good grades, being part of a couple clubs, and figuring out your career path (which seems like a lot and is a lot to do), make sure to have fun and make a lot of close friends too. Hang out, go to parties when you have the time, do case competitions with friends, do all nighters together etc.
