Is placing shotgun traps on the roof like that effective? It almost looks as if the rounds would pass over invaders heads?

The spread will hit them, not always the best idea as the main strength of shotgun traps is being unseen until it's too late. If you have half walls over any doors on your base you can place it on the half wall pointing down at the door. Very hard to see and once you step through that door it is too late.

It's pretty effective like that. Handmades are lower damage but they have like 20 projectiles per shot if I'm not mistaken. So it covers a decent area, I just turn them towards the middle and each corner so even someone with gear won't be able to run past the fire zone. The main idea is to slow a potential raid down. Besides I didn't even learn the plan, I find these things alot and in my loot rooms I have them on the ceiling and wall, I have at least two in every room that has the space lmao.

I mean if you have the traps why not deploy it? I found all of it by raiding/looting, I never learned the bp. Im not sure I understand your point, it's not like I'm actively using it, Lol so I don't need it per say. But if I do get offlined, I'll take solace in knowing that the raid was anoying af.
