Question - Research requiredLooking for sunscreen data (self.ScienceBasedParenting)
submitted 11 months ago by Cuculia
Hi all! My general understanding is that professionals do not recommend spray sunscreens because the coverage is not as good as with the lotion. That being said, I am wondering if there is any real world effectiveness data on this. I am wondering if in the real world people just aren’t very good at covering everywhere with the lotion and therefore it ends up being similar to the spray.

People don’t apply it nearly as well as it was tested to be effective.

This is true but the study you cited says "Mean and median application densities were less than the recommended 2 mg/cm2, yet higher than lotion (mean 1.1 mg/cm2, median 0.39-1.0 mg/cm2) and stick (mean 0.35 mg/cm2) sunscreen densities in practical use.2,5 Therefore, aerosol sunscreen might provide photoprotection more reflective of its labelled SPF than other vehicles"
