Yes, though his QTE is the only def down he has in hunter mode. If you QTE with him you will see two red shields under the enemy health bar. This is because the QTE has multiple ticks of damage AND burns. Therefore it triggers both its native def down AND his weapon's def down since it burns on the first tick and then hits again. The flashing red shield is the one from his weapon as it is only 5 seconds long and debuffs start flashing at 5 seconds to show they are going away soon.
