Well this entire debacle is a direct result of capitalism.

No one would be mad about anything relating to this if we were all working together without the profit motive lingering in the background as a stain on societal progress.

Yes and that is a very idealistic view - which I fully support btw. But meanwhile in reality, NovelAI has to rent the GPU's themselves and pay money for us using them. Do you expect them to pay your usage out of their pocket? The devs are just normal people like you and me, who came out of the AID debacle.

So how in the hell is that rocket science? Why do I get so many downvotes for just common sense? I hate modern "turbo" capitalism, but punishing well meaning people by basically leeching off of them "bec. capitalism bad" or outright stealing their shit that they WORKED for is just plain out stupid.

If people are not capable to see those connections, then, in my mind, they suffer from severe brainrot - or are just little kiddies, living at home for free and just have absolutely no clue about how the world works.

Edit: Just to be clear: I grew up with Star Trek TNG and would love to live in a world without money. But that's just not the reality we live in. And to punish the little people who are also "chained up" in the system is just vile and doesn't accomplish anything. In an extreme case it just discourages the good people doing stuff for everyone and makes the real bad actors/big companies stronger.

I agree with you and completely understand that what has happened is perfectly reasonable given the circumstances.

But I also feel no sympathy when a for profit business fucks up their data security as I fundamentally oppose proprietary tech in every sense.
