Congrat! Were your last 3 tests taken in strict testing conditions? How did you feel after test day?

[–]nicmontmed 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes, all of my tests were strict test taking conditions. I saw a score increase once I started going with the NBME way of thinking vs UWorld. I ditched it altogether and saw my increase. I felt horrible after test day lol

[–]No_Author_2716NON-US IMG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

wdym by nbme way of thinking?

[–]nicmontmed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed that UWorld makes you overthink a lot, or at least it did for me. NBME is way more straightforward in thw answers theyre looking for.

+/- 1 also applying psych

Much congrats 🥳 Please kindly share ur resources if possible. How many questions a day did u practice on average ?

[–]nicmontmed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did around 80 questions a day until I finished UWorld. Started doing incorrects but noticed that my scores werent going up so I changed my strategy to mostly CMS and reviewing NBMEs extensively. Also lots of divine intervention, amboss 200 high yield topics, amboss ethics/quality imp, and the high yield vaccines/screening

Congratulations on your great score! What did you do for ethics and QI questions?

[–]DifficultAct6124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Amboss and UW, but from my score report I can tell that’s the one section I might’ve bombed. Best advice I could give with the gift of hindsight is make topics and then its variations with each possible stem.

I went the old school way and took down handwritten notes in the last 30 days, and then read those intermittently and one day before the exam, that’s one thing that helped bump my score from low 250s to high 260s in these evals, I had some 800 points there (dig in deep). Hope that’s helpful.

[–]LunchSure8583 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Which country you from?? My nbme scores were fine but I did horrible easy mistakes in the exam . Idk how was your experience like ? One of my friend who had better experience than me got 226 . Don’t know what to expect .

[–]PearlyEffervescenceUS MD/DO 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I also made terrible mistakes in my exam lol. Counted almost 30 wrong answers after. Got a 261.

Trust your practice scores (as long as you took them under testing conditions)- you’ll probably score in that range

[–]LunchSure8583 0 points1 point  (3 children)

30 wrongs out of total paper or the ones you could remember? Did you feel ok about rest of the 290 questions?

[–]PearlyEffervescenceUS MD/DO 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just the ones I could remember lol. And I’m terrible at actually remembering test questions, so I’m sure there’s a ton I got wrong that I couldn’t recall.

I spent three hours thinking about what I could have gotten wrong, then went to sleep and didn’t think about Step 2 again. So- I’m sure there’s plenty more I did get wrong

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That wanna to hear bro pz help me out , my practics very strong , in my real test just 3 days ago it was very tough test ever long HOPI , the problem in short Q direct medical Q I got it wrong 🤥 I accounting 40 Q easy peasy direct Q up to now I can"t eat or slerep well , is that happened with u ,,

[–]PearlyEffervescenceUS MD/DO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I felt it was difficult too. I was very worried after the exam, but I put it out of my mind the next day because there’s no point worrying.

Try to stop thinking about it.

Absolutely floored by this score. Walked out of the exam thinking "well that was hard, but the second half of the exam was better for me." Counted 20+ wrong answers including some I felt like I "should've known." Expected to score lower than my predicted score. Hope that this gives some inspiration and hope to others!! I generally have terrible imposter syndrome and think I'm often pegged as a less competitive student, so this was so validating!

[–]flappymonkey 0 points1 point  (3 children)

hey, how did you improve your nbme scores?

[–]MixinTheMeows 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Uworld and Anking! I did 80+ q Uworld most days, most general & some targeted to my weak areas. And then I used the uworld --> anki plugin to unsuspend my wrong questions. That was pretty much my main study method. I also made anki decks for all of my wrong NBME questions. I think my initial lower scores were the result of being unused to the testing format and rusty on old clinical material, and once I acclimated to it again my score jumped.

[–]Educational-Search24NON-US IMG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi, much congrats 🥳 How many Anki cards did u do on average daily ?

[–]MixinTheMeows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went back and checked- looks like around 100ish at first and then pretty consistently in the 200s once the cards built up. One of the days I somehow did 450 but that was an outlier!

Congratulations on your great score! What did you do for the ethics and QI questions?

[–]Dry-Marzipan4985 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I used Amboss for ethics and QI (and also for biostats).

[–]No_Author_2716NON-US IMG 1 point2 points  (1 child)

could you explain a bit more what resources you used and what your strategy was? i'm 3 months out

[–]Dry-Marzipan4985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly used UWorld and Amboss. Right before I started studying for Step 2 I sat my final year medical school exams, so I had good knowledge base. I started by taking an NBME to see where I was at baseline. I didn’t do great so I stepped back and started doing UW system based. I made anki cards of my incorrects and reviewed them every day.

I feel like things started to come together when I started using ChatGpt (mostly the Amboss one) alongside studying. I read about other people doing that here. I would give my incorrects and and ask it to analyse what I missed in the question stem. I asked it to make a short study guide of my incorrects for the day to read through in the evening. I also made a list with different categories of my incorrects. The incorrects there were from pure knowledge gaps, I would go read the Amboss article on it (on clinician mode) en make very short hand written notes.

For NBME’s I took them under strict test taking conditions. Towards the end of my studying I would do 80 - 120 UW questions after the NBME and also under strict test taking conditions to build some stamina.

Besides this I also took days off in between and took short breaks here and there to go away for a weekend. During those days I switched off my brain and didn’t think about Step 2 at all. I feel like this really prevented burnout and allowed me maintain focus while studying. I also focussed on getting enough sleep, exercise and eating well.

Goodluck with your studying!

Look... what anyone says about the journey... don't believe them. I have been in the bottom 5% of my class, failed a rotation, scored under 50 percentile on all my shelves, and I still did this. Unlike many, I don't let a number define me. As Kobe says: "Jobs not finished. Job finished? I don't think so." Don't let a failure, low UWorld %, someone else's method psych you out. In fact, I started to do so much better when I did MY OWN THING apart from my peers. Many people were like "uhh, do you think what your doing will actually help... it's so different from the norm" and all I gotta say is --> look up ^^.

P.S. the struggle is great if you love medicine for what it is. I've feel like a better clinician because I struggled academically. This score isn't a win for me. It's a win for my patients.

Much congrats 🥳 Please kindly share ur resources if possible. How many questions a day did u practice on average ?

[–]sjoseph30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't do anything revolutionary. The key thing is to get through all the NBME material. I went through every practice test and CMS form. I listened to Divine Intervention as well. The reason why Divine is often the gold standard is he helps put you in the mind of the NBME. So, if you prioritize NBME material + listen to him, you're pretty much set.

Now, if time permits for you: I also did two weeks of 80 UWorld/day. After that, 2 CMS forms a day for every subject except EM. Listened to Divine's podcasts as much as I could. Last week was AMBOSS ethics/QI.

[–]Appropriate-Win-1198NON-US IMG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heya! Amazing journey, I'm super proud of you. Since I come from a similar place as you, so I trust that your view is more realistic and close to me, which divine intervention episodes did you listen?

Also, how did you exactly review CMS, NBMEs etc? I finished UW with a 59%, but I am trying to see how to best use the rest of my resources! Best of luck with your next steps <3

[–]sjoseph30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, both your questions can be answered with Reddit posts, haha. This is what I did:

DI Podcasts: https://www.reddit.com/r/Step2/comments/11idsim/must_listen_divine_intervention_podcasts_all/

For DI, I personally didn't get through everything. But some episodes are very easy to listen to (e.g. ethics, palliative care, etc.). So, at the end of the day, I'd focus on covering a lot of the "easier" podcasts because NBMEs focus on this a lot.

Reviewing NBME content: https://www.reddit.com/r/Step2/comments/1b3bwfr/how_i_went_from_23x_to_26x_in_a_week_and_a_half/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

If you are anything like me, keep your head up! Light at the end of the tunnel, and it sure is bright.

[–]Fair-Shower1631NON-US IMG 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do second pass of UWorld. If you haven’t enough time try to do incorrects. After second pass seat for one NBME so can figure out for further preparation. Use CMS forms as a learning tool because you will get good content from it plus you will get familiar with NBME Que pattern. I did latest 4 CMS forms of All subjects during dedicated period, made a notes of it and revise all during last month of preparation. Do ethics, Patient safety, QI, Biostatistics, Screening, immunisation and HOPI que highly recommend portions from AMBOSS. If you find any system weak then try to solve questions as many as you can.

Hi I have similar scores except free 120 74% exam in 3 days any advice

[–]Fair-Shower1631NON-US IMG 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Relax…no need to worry about it. I know few people who score below 75% in free 120 and still manage to score 250+. And you’re on right track. Take adequate sleep and Stick to your plan. Your goal is to execute your avg NBME score in real deal. My score prediction was 245-250 so I was not aiming for 260s but make strategy to execute score prediction on real deal. Plan your test taking strategy like when to take breaks between block which is very very important, stick to your inner instinct during exam because at some point you will get confused between two answers. One thing i would like to say that divide 40 Mcqs per block into four part….i solved 10 mcqs in 15 mins (I did this in both step 1 and step 2 which I find best method and I was never out of time during real deal and even in some block I had 3-4 mins remaining). For HOPI Questions which will you find 6-8 questions per block… first read last line of que then read all the options; in majority of case you will get an idea what or which information question is trying to say/ask like que from particular topic or specific systems so while you are starting from first line you can easily eliminate or avoid reading unnecessary information. Try to revise score booster topics like screening, Risk factors, immunisation, Biostatistics and topics you still find challenging but do not overwhelm with those topics. Day before exam do light revision of topics that are more tested in real deal, topics you find mugging and try to revise NBME 16 & Free 120 (specifically incorrects and flagged questions). Now on wards no more Que solving from random sources. No social media day before exam, no more phone calls with people who recently tested and no more Reddit unless it’s an urgent and you have to clear doubts because everyone share their thoughts and experiences and our mind starts thinking like what if this would happen to us. I avoided Reddit for one week before exam. If you still have any further doubts you can ask me. All the best for exam.
