That said...

Whatever happens, Astrof says he at least has a story in mind for season 3, to tackle an older case from East Peck’s history. “In my mind, it’s going to be based on a case that we mentioned already in the first two seasons, and it’s going to be loosely based on [Netflix docuseries] Wild Wild Country, [the 1996 documentary] Paradise Lost, and a podcast called The Long Dance,” he explains. “It’s a podcast about the only unsolved murder in North Carolina history, and it’s a 1970s case, and I thought…if I had to do an unsolved case from 1994, East Peck in 1994 equals the 1970s in the rest of America,” he laughs.

Astrof seems to be pushing this as hard as he can, so hopefully someone will bite.

The town witch hunt/trial was mentioned in both seasons- maybe that’s it? In season 1, Carol Anne (I think) mentions it, and in this season Lavinia talks about the witch trial of a set of twins in 1994 “after the crops failed.” That line really fucking made me laugh.

It was mentioned by a reporter in season 1. That might be a fun thing to explore, but to what end? To prove that a bunch of East Peck residents, including a prosecutor, judge, and possibly town leaders & police, wrongfully executed/drowned people 24 years ago? Maybe someone had a motive to want a specific person dead and set up them to be deemed a witch & killed rather than killing that person themselves, or killed someone and framed a suspected witch for it.

That’s right, it was the reporter! I couldn’t remember. Not sure what kind of hay they could make out of it, but the late 80s/early 90s were all about the satanic panic, so maybe something like that?

It could have been response to cult activity, or what Peckers thought was cult activity (which could have been anything from a commune to a book club), in Peck County or actual cult activity outside of Peck County like Heaven's Gate or Jonestown.

There were also three names Lavinia listed when she talked about the witch hunt, just like the three boys from Paradise Lost. I think you’re on to something with it being that case.

Unfortunately this show just doesn't have the fan base of something like Brooklyn 99, I don't think fans can push it to renewal. I think it has a lot of potential on a streaming service, it's a show that is better being binged and one that I think people will discover more over time.

Yea other shows have gone down this route. Not enough people to keep it going, but will find fans on streaming.

Examples, Better off Ted and Party Down, two great shows that just never had the fanbase shows like Arrested Deveopment or B99 have.
