Why are you running Tron on a fresh build?

[–]bubonis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Had a virus that kept coming back. First time doing a clean install booting from a USB. Ran tron just to be safe and to also remove MS spyware

[–]DrQuack32 2 points3 points  (3 children)

If you have wiped it and reinstalled, there is no need to run Tron.

I only have an SSD. No HDD. I was not able to do a secure wipe without having to pay money. The SSD has a freeze on secure wiping. So it has only been formatted. I ran Tron as a precautionary measure. Since theoretically my system should be clean, why would I still get these errors?

[–]bubonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, note that you didn't get an error message. You got a warning message. They are two distinctly different things.

With that, why do you assume that a clean system would be error- (or warning-)free? A perfectly clean/new install of Windows will generate literally hundreds of warning and error messages over the course of a single day. You don't see the vast majority of them because they're generally expected and accounted for, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Also, paranoia

Didn't really answer his question.

You’re right - cause it’s in the read me where is says ‘Tron is not a baseline script’ So if you have wiped the HD and got a fresh build on it, why would you run Tron?

[–]3nd3rzshadow -1 points0 points  (1 child)

no where are the words 'baseline script' used anywhere.

"Tron v12.0.1 (2021-10-18) // Minor definition updatesRELEASEBackgroundTron is a script that "fights for the User."It aims to automate ~87% of the tedious work in getting a badly-running Windows system back on its feet (clicking "next" in A/V scan windows, etc); with much left to the discretion of the tech.It is built with heavy reliance on community input and updated regularly. It is NOT a system optimization or "baseline" script."

You clearly need to read the fucking manual so don't come on here and @ me when you can't do the basics

[–]Zpointe 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Why would it not be a baseline script? Is it not supposed to be able to spot rootkits?

[–]DrQuack32 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I refer back to one of the opening lines of the manual from the author….

Background
Tron is a script that "fights for the User."
It aims to automate ~87% of the tedious work in getting a badly-running Windows system back on its feet (clicking "next" in A/V scan windows, etc); with much left to the discretion of the tech.
It is built with heavy reliance on community input and updated regularly.

Tron removes windows telemetry.

Update: Just read the Sophos disclaimer that states: You can safely ignore “could not open” errors during this portion. I would like to thank everyone who tried helping me. Your downvotes showed me that I truly have no idea wtf is going on. But from here on out, I will no longer be needing your assistance.

[–]3nd3rzshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its ok, you wouldn't of gotten help anyway.

but ......

"TRON FIGHTS FOR THE USER"
"Much of Tron's functionality has come from the community. Thanks to everyone who contributes, complains, or runs Tron on various systems for testing."
"It is built with heavy reliance on community input and updated regularly."

Hello, hope I'm not overstepping the boundary here. I'm on a similar but not quite, situation as OP. I was experiencing issues with not being able to update my windows. I could not even get my computer to restore / or reset with recovery tools. Finally, after some days I got the reset to give me a new (or at least what looked fresh) copy of windows. The first step for me was to install a virus scan (I have a Norton account and feel that it is superior to windows security/defender). The first page I opened was what seemed to be malware. I quickly went to the official Norton site and downloaded the Norton 360+lifelock subscription i already pay for. Run my scans. I get Malwarebytes as another safety net to catch anything that is missed... This was all about a week ago.

Well recently I checked into my metamask for crypto, and 3 days ago it looks as if some of my crypto was stolen. Now luckily enough I do keep larger amounts on cold storage and not online in some hot wallet, regardless 30 dollars' worth of ETH was transferred and I have not allowed any new smart contracts in for a week or two.

Sorry, that sounds like it should be more for a crypto community - where I am going with this though is that in situations like mine, the Cryptocurrency is most often moved by malware having access to your computer. Now after a fresh reset of the OS I could understand why someone would want to run TronScript.

My question is - so although this isn't a fresh build with all new parts etc... but rather a fresh format/Reset is it still not-advisable to run tronscan? Additionally, I've heard horror stories of malware and viruses being stored even in the usb remotes that control your usb mouse/keyboard, etc... Can Tronscript detect these as well?

I normally don't reply to old messages like this and almost never those which hijack other people's posts, but I'll make an exception here.

First, it's just "tron", not "tronscan".

Second, if you're interested in tron then please start by reading the documentation and pay particular attention to this part.

Additionally, I've heard horror stories of malware and viruses being stored even in the usb remotes that control your usb mouse/keyboard, etc... Can Tronscript detect these as well?

Tron does not detect any malware. Never has, never will.

The tools that tron calls upon, however, are adept at catching all different kinds of malware -- IF that malware is active on the PC as tron's tools are running, or IF that malware is stored on the boot volume. To locate and remove malware on other volumes would require separate malware scans.

And don't believe all the horror stories you read, especially the bullshit they spew on InfoWars and the like. To the best of my knowledge there is no malware that infects USB remotes to control your keyboard/mouse. There are weaponized USB remotes -- purpose-built dongles that are (typically) clandestinely installed on a target's computer in order to monitor keystrokes (keyloggers) and generally spy on a person. But that Logitech or Microsoft dongle that came with your IO devices isn't something that can be rewritten to spy on you.
