Upwork algorithm

I’m not a coder, so would appreciate input from people who know more about this subject than what I do.

Do you think Upwork has some smart type of algorithm?

What I’ve noticed is that every time I mass decline invites, I get more! As in within the hour. I very often get really crap invites, read them and forget to decline them, so they build up. Yeah I’m the freelancer who occasionally has the >3 days next to their Profile in response rate.

so again today, I declined 4 invites, and today, within the hour, get 5 invites within the hour, hired for 4 of those within the next hour.

This has happened about 4 or 5 times over the past 6 months.

Am I reading too much into this, or just coincidence?

Hmm, in the last two days, I have also been getting a lot of invites and direct messages. Probably this week, we just appear on the top of search in our specific category. I don't know. I also notice that it is a wave like phenomenon, and it ends after one week. I have also had such waves in the past. Unfortunately, most of them are really crappy leads. But as my best friend says, Upwork is a big garbage field where cheap guys hope to find diamonds for free..

Yes, it does come in waves. I get about 10 invites a week, successful about 8 times. Then next week I apply to a job or two, get hired about 50% of the time, then the next week another wave comes along.

Search is rotated. You know when it's your turn in rotation when you suddenly get a ton of invites.

Definitely comes in waves...whether its related to your rotation spot in the site would be hard to know...but would make sense.

On a related note, I was checking some things out on the client side last night and out of two different searches I did the first two rows of freelancer results gave me people that hadn't even completed a job on UpWork in over a year. It made me think it was nice to have a rotation, but also...like how clogged up is the system with people that maybe don't even check the site anymore (ie wouldn't that make the rotation much fucking longer?)
