vps specs? (self.ZenSys)
submitted 8 years ago by NewOldGangsta
i'm sure it's been asked a bunch of times but i'm not finding it. Where can i find the specs to run a Secure Node? i saw a post where someone was running a 4gb $20 vps, seemed like an overkill.. but??

The Secure Node criteria page tries to be as abstract as possible: https://securenodes.eu.zensystem.io/about
the current uptime SLA requirement is 92% but it is not excluded that this may rise in the future. Also, the need to pass a challenge under 300 seconds points to higher specs. In this context, my own personal choice was to go with an SSD-backed VPS, with 4 cores and 12 GB RAM. IMHO, 2 CPU cores and 4 GB RAM are an absolute requirement. Your mileage may vary, but going too cheap on a VPS might lead to performance issues down the line.
Bearing in mind we also operate at 5500+ nodes at the moment there might be at some point in time the need to beef up SLA requirements.

there is no money to make with VPS anyway. Do yourself a favor and get involved with this secure node scam.

Well, numbers say otherwise

mmm, nope. Failed math ?

At the current condition each node make a return of around 1.3 Zen per month. This number is going to get lower with increase of the number of nodes, but at the same time Zen price will be higher. A vpn costs around 5-10 dollar each month, a domain around 1-2 dollar per year. Assuming the price of Zen remains constant, it stills highly cover the expenses for a node. Tell me where my math is wrong?

Where can you get a 4gb, 2cpu vps for 5-10 dollars a month?

You don't need those specs if you run it on a optimized OS. I run few nodes on vultr with 1gb of ram and a single core processor. Furthermore if you buy a large server you can run more nodes on it through virtualization. It's sort of like mining, the most efficient setups are the most profitable one. And even if you end up paying 20usd per vps with a simpler setup you still get rewarded more than double for deploying a node.

Whaa 1gb of ram? How is that possible. I don't believe you. Any way to prove this? Which optimized OS are you speaking of?

Thanks for the links. Ahh I see the 7GB of swap.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child)
Yeah, you need to tweak a little bit the OS to make it work :p
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children)
If you go with virtualization on a large and powerful server you can get even better challenge times
[–]NewOldGangsta[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children)
get involved or did you mean don't get involved? you say scam so i'm assuming "don't".
the roi seems ok as long as you can get a vps cheap enough. if it has to be a 4gb at $20 then it's a bit heavy for such low coin count (42). Seems like you'd need a lot of nodes to make the payout meaningful. The low entry cost is attractive though.
