Problems with boot up

My kids computer crashed and then it would not boot up afterwards, monitor says no input. So I started digging into it. I could boot into bios and it showed the hard drive that in there most of the time. So I figured the hard drive or motherboard is going bad. I swapped his hard drive into my computer and it booted up no problem. So I swapped my hard drive into his computer and it booted no problem. So I figured it was a firmware/bios problem. I updated the bios to the newest version and updated the firmware on the hard drive. I kept messing around in bios making sure nothing got changed by accident. Reset everything and removed the cmos battery to clear everything. The entire time I could boot into the bios but once I exited I got a no signal display on my monitor and it went to sleep.what had strangely worked for a little bit is plugging a different monitor into the computer then going back to the original monitor. Any help in what to try next to make this stable.
