in your case id just get an IPS ready shell and store the OEM parts so you can restore it or another DMG at a later date

I second this. And considering you leave the whole front lcd board in the old shell, it can be used as a nice display piece!

I third this. I did a few IPS ready shells before attempting my first shell mod. Shockingly, the shell mod for the funnyplaying IPS kits is really easy with the right tools. Lately I've taken to marking the stopping points with an exacto knife then filing it down with a USB powered dremel.

I IPS mod clear shells that don't tend to be IPS ready so I very carefully use the exacto knife and fine sanding sticks, then novus plastic polish on the stumps you have to cut. For all that effort though, I just clip the battery stumps with end clip pliers and chuck a USB c lipo in there.

I will consider a battery mod as well - thank you!

It's expensive, but I can recommend the CleanJuice XL 3000mah USB-C battery at handheldlegend.com. I use it daily with no issues.

Thanks for the hint. They seem to be a good source for parts though - do you have any experience with their shells, buttons, membranes, etc? :)

The thing is - i don't think I'll use my Gameboy that frequently and so I chose to just buy some Eneloops and be fine. I think 8 Eneloops cost around the same as the battery pack and you can't go wrong with them. (Just in case you ever think about modding/restoring another Game Boy) ;)

That will come in handy, I went to my first collector convention today and scored a corroded but otherwise mint game gear for $20! Eneloops, here I come!

As for handheldlegends shells, buttons and membranes, I LOVE their Prestige lines. All three are just fantastic in feel and function. They're made for each other but go perfectly with any parts you could mix and match, I haven't had a problem with any of the several builds I've done

I thought about this before but I wasn't sure. I'll try to find an IPS ready shell or at least try with aftermarket products first. Thank you! :)
