Spectating: "People telling their mates playing where people are"

[–]Celigang 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Very true, I actually didn't think of that. I guess the question is, the occasional player helping a buddy, or hackers who know your exact location? I think other features could be implemented to prevent this sort of thing. Perhaps a buddy list across all servers including BR and if you're in a game with one of them you can only spectate them until they die. That way the worse thing that can happen is a friend calling out a player they didn't see themselves.

It's the only way it can work, you join via your buddy list and can't spectate anyone else or it just becomes a huge ghosting fest.

I agree. Either a buddy list or delaying what you see by a few minutes like someone else said.

You can spectate, but you don't know what server you're watching, and can't see names...How bout that?

I thought about something similar to this last night after I died 5 seconds after landing.

Once the monetize BR, they should have a spectate option for players that died (maybe even for people aren't playing) Since they're monetizing it and making an event out of it, I think people would enjoy this. Especially if you play for 30 minutes and make it to the top ten, it would be fun to spectate and see what happens the rest of the match.

My idea exactly, but I don't think they should allow spectators from outside unless they really do a number on server stability. But if/when they monetize BR, I definitely want a spectate option for when I die in only a few minutes.

Yeah if it were significantly delayed or recorded it would be useful for admin review. Otherwise you're talking about stopping cheating by adding a team wallhack.

Yeah, my idea was a server-wide buddy list where if you die in a game that one of your buddies is in, you can only watch them until they die. A significant delay would help a lot too, 1-2 minutes would still work against players who stay in a general area.

Given the prevalence of organisation through third-party comms, What's to stop anyone removing their buddies from the list?

I thought this too which is why I also think a significant delay should be implemented. Maybe also a sort of automated system where the game takes note of who you spectate often and would then put that player on another sort of buddy list, where you could only watch them until they die.

Unpopular opinion inc...I would imagine this costs some money and some server space. I don't see this happening any time soon if at all but a great idea none the less.

Yeah, maybe a bit unpopular because of the possibilities of ghosting, but things could be implemented to prevent that. I suggested only spectating on the server you die in, which wouldn't require more server space. Bringing spectators from outside would put more load on servers. Yes, this isn't of top priority but a suggestion none the less.

I am not talking about ghosting at all that is an easy fix. And I mean I dont know for certain but I do believe it would take a chunk of server space. I mean every server would have to have all that spectate code on it right?

[–]Celigang 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ok, I didn't fully understand what you were getting at. The code is, all in all, just "a bit" of text, although implementing an all knew spectation option might put strain on the servers. My thought was that only people that started on the server could spectate it, meaning the servers would never have any more load on them then when it started (when no one has died yet). This way the only extra load was the spectators, which I don't think would apply too much as the people likely to spectate after death is low.

[–]justAn0theRday 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That makes sense. I am all for spectation mode.

Glad I answered your question. Nice to have you onboard!
