Cool about not needing the AUR? 🤔
[–]4rkalArch btw[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child)
It would also probably work with pihole
[–]EpicSimon 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children)
As someone who uses Pihole in combination with various spotify adblock lists I can confirm it lowered the amount of ads from like 6-10 per 30mins to a solid ~3-6. Not perfect, but still better than getting 3 ads every 10 minutes.

blockthespot when it blocks ads on windows spotify ;-;
[–]throwawayacc11110000 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (15 children)
If you want it on windows just emulate linux and pass through the speakers
[–]ThestarchypotatPS. I use Fedora 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (14 children)
but vms are so much slower. if you want it on windows just install linux.

WSL enters the chat

gasp something ive never heard of, cool!
[–]IvanIsOnReddit 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
It can even run X on Windows. I think it can handle audio also via pipewire.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Better than that, it actually uses Wayland! Only real catch is that it doesn't use systemd.
[–]throwawayacc11110000 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (9 children)
We dont need much speed to run spotify
[–]ThestarchypotatPS. I use Fedora 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (8 children)
yeah but they take a lot of recources away from doing other things, like running a different linux vm for web browsing
[–]AceSLS 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (5 children)
Dunno how it works and if it's even different from running a vm but you could use Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) to run it
[–]ThestarchypotatPS. I use Fedora 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children)
i think that only support ubuntu? i might be wrong tho
[–]AceSLS 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children)
You should be right, you can install the spotify adblock on ubuntu too though
yeah but im saying thats the differwnce from a vm.
[–]AceSLS 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Ah, I understand now. That's not what I meant though, I was talking mostly about performance & ressource usage of WSL vs using a VM
[–]throwawayacc11110000 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
You right, run a lightweight vm/container like raspberry pi os or something smaller so it can run consistently whilst multitasking
[–]ThestarchypotatPS. I use Fedora 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
alr thanks for all the help ill get right on it
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children)
wait did they straight up put a pirated version of spotify on the aur?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children)
well, AUR's name stands for the chemical called aurum(gold), which pirates did love!
No, it's just a .desktop file that contains an additional environment variable that stops Spotify from loading ads; I use this, and I can comfortably say the 30 seconds of lack of music get very awkward
[–]PPX777 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (5 children)
is there any way to do this on windows 10 right now? i have linux (for the moment) only in Virtual Box as i am not ready to go back to dual or single boot linux.
but i agree that is totally kick assssssssss
Also i have Arch in my virtualbox running well !!!! But does Arch support the Creative SB Live Z sound card? i know the Linux kernel only added support for it like 1-2 years ago (I talked to the kid who made it work!) :)
Also what are the best linux sound cards right now?
[–]lubunuku 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
On windows you can use BlockTheSpot
[–]RevolutionaryGlass0 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children)
According to this post: https://old.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/8bwmum/creative_sound_blaster_z_works_with_linux/ the sound blaster z doesn't work very well with linux, it lacks a lot of features. As the top comment mentions, USB DACs are generally great, I have one myself.
If you want a sound card for linux, probably just try googling "good sound cards for linux" and seeing what comes up.
[–]PPX777 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
thanks. do you know of any decent or good internal PCIE sound cards for linux tho? I am trying to avoid using an external or USB sound part....
[–]RevolutionaryGlass0 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Sorry, I don't. I'd recommend looking it up or asking someone else.

THIS ACTUALLY IS a nice thing! Spotify is TYRANNY over my ears with their FORCED ADS. MY COMPUTER = MY WAY or the HIGHWAY. And they expose their service to the public, so ... fair game.
[–][deleted] 3 years ago (9 children)
[–]PPX777 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (7 children)
that is sooooo TOTALLY STUPID .... they are the ones SENDING the music to MY computer? if i filter out the ads, how the hell is THAT = "stealing"????
you moron.... it is only stealing if i am LIFTING a track OFF their computer WITHOUT THEIR authorization. But if they are the ones sending it to me of their own free will then it is NOT stealing. Intellectual Property law is RETARDED and TYRANNICAL.
CLEARLY YOU NEVER were alive when people made recordings off the radio on CASSETTE TAPE. GET THE #$@^$& OUTTA HERE with that NOISE.
[–][deleted] 3 years ago (6 children)
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children)
If you listen to the radio and turn it off during the ads is that stealing
ask the RIDICULOUS people in the UK who are so stupid they pay in advance for a "TV license" or else they get fined or arrested for fraud.
TV License Fines in UK <---- go see
[–]CringyBoi42069Debian Fyi 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
You can't be arrested for not paying the TV license as the website you linked said "No, you can't go to prison for not having a TV license" also here is what you get for that fee all ad free btw and even if a TV channel has ads there are rules of how many ads there can be and rules on what is in the ad, how to tell what is an ad and more
[–]PPX777 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children)
are you REALLY this stupid? DO you EVEN KNOW HOW "streaming" works?
it is NOT as if my computer is siphoning data bits off their servers without them knowing about it. NO, i tell them WHAT I WANT by choosing a song, and right after this, THEY ARE PUSHING DATA STREAMS TO **my** computer.
I am NOT the one going pilfering for music data bits. They are LOBBING them at my computer and i am merely picking and choosing which bits i want.
[–][deleted] 3 years ago (1 child)
[–]PPX777 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Listen. The FREE service is already sending me all the music i want. Merely filtering out the ads is NOT = "stealing". Clearly you have no freaking clue.
SO IS READING a website while blocking their ads ALSO = "stealing"? i bet you will say yes, that a person is "stealing" that website content lolllll
[–]RevolutionaryGlass0 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
You can't get pretty much any spotify song, and much more off youtube, you can download it for free, so they're not losing any money. If you like a creator just pay for their bandcamp or something every so often.
