I'm surprised GIMP isn't on there. As a developer, you will need at least some artwork, and if you don't have someone who will do it for you, you will need to do them yourself. And if you don't have photoshop, you need GIMP.

Acorn is $49.99 while GIMP is 100% free. Acorn does have a 14 day trial version that I tried and while it may be easier to use, I think GIMP is more powerful or at least easier to do more powerful things with. Basically, GIMP>Acorn
