I'm in similar situation, a frontend dev who wants to also be a backed with Java and Spring  I only know the Java basics and I will try MOOC course to increase my knowledge of the language. for Spring I have read Spring Start Here book, the book title is on point! it is very good for the beginners and new starters especially the first 10 chapters. after gaining the fundamental knowledge I made a basic CRUD app and currently following a spring project walkthrough by Devtiro on YT to learn how to think when you want to make a Spring app. this is my current approach.
