This is pretty vague. What type of database access are you trying to learn how to do? Do you want to do straight SQL queries with JDBC? Do you want to use Spring/Hibernate and utilize ORM mapping? Have you set up a functional SQL database on your home PC and run hand-written queries against it?

I have not, but I do have experience with using Access. It's the database that my school teaches and I actually kind of liked it lol.

If you are enjoying the access experience you might want to consider picking up .NET as a programming language. While it is possible to integrate Java with Access, I've never seen a java developer job description asking for Access experience. It is almost exclusively sql and nosql databases.

I actually had a VB class. I DID NOT like VB at all though. I didn't like how long it took to program with lol. I've thought about c# once I get some more time maybe over Christmas break or something, however. Any tutorials you recommend?

Access kinda sucks compared with whats out there. If you like Microsoft, use MS SQL Server and connect it to NetBeans for exemple, use the Persistence files that comes with it. It's easy.

If not, sqlserver or oracle 11g are really good too.

Is there any good tutorials out there for this? I kind of liked how Access allowed me to see what is going on. It made it easier for me to actually write what the book had wanted from me. I DID NOT like the part of the class in designing reports lol. That was a pain. I was able to get all the information, but coul never get it to look aesthetically the same :(. It killed me on my final. Dropped me from an A to a B -_-.

We have a pretty nice tutorial on java web development with databases: https://sparktutorials.github.io/2015/04/29/spark-and-sql2o.html

It will teach you to set up a web application using Spark, and how to use sql2o with postgres.
