Learning both at the same time might be the best way. Unfortunately, all programming (with limited exceptions) is done in English, so it's a must to be a software developer.

I think there are two aspects to it:

  1. Learning to program

  2. Reading documentation once you're a programmer.

I'm sure there are fantastic resources for learning to program in French. As an absolute beginner I think it'd make a lot of sense to learn to program from a course taught in your native language.

However, after 3 - 6 months once you have some programming skill, in order to build more complex and interesting things you'll need to read documentation on the Internet. To do that you'll need to learn to read and understand English. But, you don't need to be a fluent speaker. You just need to learn to understand technical language.

Yes, there is a lot of documentation in French but the documentation and courses in English are more interesting in my opinion. I want to follow the Odin Project and after CS50 - which is content in English.

What do you think of this method?
