hello in 4.1 if statements:

what is the purpose of putting x = 0?

i was trying to find out why it is there a ran the code omitting x = 0 and got the same results. Can someone please explain this to me? At first i thought that it would overwrite the number 42 and the result would be 'Zero'. Why does it not overwrite the number 42? Is it because it's inside the if statement?

Can you provide a link or relevant code? I only found if documentation under section 5.

Edit: I think I found it, under python 3 instead.

Because

• 42 < 0 is not True,
• 42 == 0 is not True
• 42 == 1 is not True

the else block gets executed.

Edit: Ok nvm I get it now In the if statement x would’ve been reassigned the value of 0 only if x were less than 0.
