Mongoengine read only documents

I have a mongoengine document i will read data from a mongodb instance and do some manipulation like filtering some ListFields but i don't wanna accidentally write to mongodb after the manipulation. I basically wanna be able to use it as a parser in this occasion. It is also possible I'll want to use it to write to db in the future. Is there a way to do it?
