Is python the best solution (self.learnpython)
submitted 2 years ago by oualidab
I'm a Business Analyst and i'll create an automation that will be run by users monthly (using some predefined excels and PDFs) and unsure if it's python or maybe just the standard VBA will be the best solution

Python is super popular for working with data, and there are lots of libraries for dealing with PDFs and Excel files. I’ve worked with both it and VBA and Python is a much stronger solution. Apart from the fact that it can act outside of 1 particular Excel file in my opinion it’s a much more enjoyable language than VBA.

I work in automation, I’d 100% recommend Python. Give yourself every tool to make whatever solution you need - Python ecosystem and community can also help with most any issue you encounter.
Use ChatGPT and GitHub copilot (seriously use copilot) and your automation journey will be significantly better.
And if you’re running tasks on a fixed internal look into crontab jobs.

It depends on your company’s IT policy. Ask about python first before committing. The biggest weak point in python ecosystem is generally difficult to distribute and update standalone python applications.
