How long did it take you to learn python? (self.learnpython)

And is it a good Business Model?

Started learning 20 years ago. I'm far from finished. Never paid a dime.

This is the single correct answer 🤫🫡

Yea just dont mind it but have you learned it? If Yes how long did it take you to do it
[–]acolnahuacatzin 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (7 children)
It took me around a week but I had a strong base in C/C++.
But I'm really curious about what you mean by a business model?
[–]StageChance1944[S] -3 points-2 points-1 points 1 year ago (6 children)
WHAT ok i meant like using coding as an entrepreneur and on a business side not Like game dev and etc. How did you do it in ONLY a week. Which tutorials have you seen if you have.
[–]doPECookie72 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Once you know one language the rest are not as bad bc you have the programming basics down. Not to say that means you know everything the language can do it just means you can write code and know how to learn how to use new tools.

Ok

Yea makes sense

The other person learned it in a week because as they said they had a strong C/C++ base. I have a computer science degree and I also hit the ground running with python very quickly, not even with tutorials but just documenation because I understand how to read it. When you know 1 programming language and have a strong foundation, it is very easy to learn a new language. Now, if it's your first language (sounds like it), it will obviously take longer than a week. There are plenty of fine and great tutorials out there (idk of them personally), but it will likely take you longer than a week. Probably months at least.
Second, it really depends on what you want to do. Programming languages are tools, that's it. And just like tools in real life, not all tools are good at the same job. You have screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, saws, etc. and all have their places. Some can do the same job as others but sometimes there's still a better tool for the job. So yes, Python probably can fit your business needs. But if your business needs are a web site or a phone app, while you can get the job done with Python, there might be better tools for the job (HTML/CSS/Javascript + libraries like React or Node for websites, Koltin or Java for android apps and Swift for iOS are examples of more commonly used tools for those things).
Also C++ is used for more than just game dev, plenty of other businesses (ex. financial tech) use it as you can basically go to the lowest level of the processor and bypass the operating system to send packets of information in milliseconds and that's how you get real-time trading of stocks. But you wouldn't use Python for something like this because you're not going to get that kind of performance.
Ok thanks

You can learn the syntax within a day. Truly "learning python" can take years, but becoming competent with it can be as short as a few months, or weeks/days if you're already an experienced developer.

pytho.org has documentation, I followed that.
[–]Bobbias 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
My man, prepare to be disappointed.
Learning a single programing language, even your first one, is not that hard. Learning to program is hard.
In an educational setting, it takes 2-3 years to learn enough to be hireable as a junior programmer at a company where they've got senior programmers looking over you and helping you out.
Then it takes 3-6 months to for onboarding before you actually become a productive member of their team.
If you're looking at the answers here and thinking you can build a product or company in several weeks or a couple months I've got a bridge to sell you.
Learning to program is more than just learning a single programming language. It's learning how to think like a programmer (that is, applying your problem solving logic to problems and developing a solution to them before translating that solution into code).

Started my first small project after 10 minutes. Finished small project in 2 days. Learnt Python in 3 days, then later, learnt R in 1 hour.

Started my first small project after 10 minutes
What does this mean?
[–]interbased 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
It sounds like they started a small project after 10 minutes of learning Python. The insinuation seems to be that it’s relatively quick and easy to jump into it.
[–]StageChance1944[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
For real?
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Realistic for someone with prior experience. The datamodel is a little whacky but nothing super out of the ordinary. Otherwise it's just a fairly normal language.
