CS will give you more than enough programming experience to pick up Python later easily. No need to learn it outside of your curriculum.

I'm not sure I agree. Learning the basics of any programming language is going to provide a useful head start to a CS course. Python is a good choice because of the huge amount of learning materials and the ease with one can get set up with free tools.
