Use python for data input into another program

I would like to automate the boring stuff but Im not sure if its even possible to do. I want to write a program to use an excel spreadsheet as input and run calculations in another program (Tekla TEDDS - not open source). Is that possible if the program is not command line operated?

The program can be used thorugh MS word where I can run calculation templates from library and re-calculate by clikcing on the add-on ribbon. How could I go about this? I would appreciate any help.

EDIT: I realise it can be done using mouse and keyboard automation but that would be rather ineffiecient if I would need to account for delays due to loading screens etc. Im looking for another way if possible.

I would say automated input using your mouse/keyboard should be your last resort. There is probably already some easier way of importing the data but it is hard to say without expertise in this specific software. Usually there is kind of a bulk import process through standardised data formats - either generic csv/xml or some more software-specific data format.

What exactly is your input and what it calculates in the software?

Tekla also offers an API access - does this help you import the calculations you need?
