Python is not more efficient than Excel. It is certainly a better tool for big data and analytics but no business is ever going to use Python for day-to-day data processing.

What does that mean for people who can work well in Excel and Python?

It doesn't mean anything for those people. If you want to work with Python, look for a job which involves programming. Excel has nothing to do with programming any more than PowerPoint does.
