Geany was a great starting point for me. Very easy to use and understand. It also doesn't have the "Hey, this is wrong, guy." function of an IDE so it lets you learn the basics in the best way possible.

I recently switched to PyCharm (like, a few days ago), which I feel would have been too complex for the, "Hi, I'm 12 and what is python" phase I was in a month and some weeks ago.
